Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) placed an indefinite suspension on Negros Muscavados center Germy Mahinay following unsportsmanlike conduct during a matchup against the Zamboanga Master Sardines last April 22, 2024.
Down 25 with around eight and a half minutes left in the contest, Mahinay aggressively contested Joey Barcuma’s fast-break layup, as the pair collided midair with Barcuma landing face first on the hardwood.

According to a circular released by the league, Mahinay was charged with an indefinite suspension from the MPBL, along with a ₱100,000 fine “for undercutting Joey Barcuma of the Zamboanga Master Sardines while in the air.”
“This outcome takes into account the dangerous nature of the play, as well as Mahinay’s reaction immediately after the deplorable act,” the statement added.
Mahinay’s last dance consisted of an eight-point outing on 50 percent shooting and two boards in nine minutes on the floor. The Negros Muscavados ended up dropping the contest, 88-73—the franchise’s first loss in their previous four games, managing a 3-1 record and the eighth seed of the MPBL’s sixth season.
