With Stallone at the helm, the mercenary troop returns after a near-10-year hiatus, providing yet another star-studded installment of The Expendables franchise. “We’ll die when we’re dead,” “Expend4bles” trailer taps into its action-adventure roots through a vast influx of explosives, fighting montages, and machine gun shells compared to its predecessors.
The Lionsgate-produced trailer recognizes the continuity of the original Expendable line, with Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture reprising their original roles.
Scott Waugh provides direction to the fourth chapter, noting the additions of Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Tony Jaa, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran, Eddie Hall, Iko Uwais, Andy Garcia, and Megan Fox—who share a familiar moment with the Expendables’ pioneer at the opening segment of the film.
Christmas (Statham) welcomes home Gina (Fox) as the couple scrambles over confidential documents before being interrupted by Barney Ross (Stallone) in his call for help. The Jennifer’s Body frontwoman reportedly assumes the role of Christmas’ ex-girlfriend, played by Charisma Carpenter in the second film.
“The Expendables are the world’s last line of defense and the team that gets called when all other options are off the table. But new team members with new styles and tactics are going to give ‘new blood’ a whole new meaning,” the film’s synopsis reads.
