Following the overwhelming success of Netflix’s adaptation of The Avatar: The Last Airbender, the franchise rides the momentum heading into the production of their second and third seasons.
With much of Team Avatar established in the show’s first season, casting director Jenny Jue (The Brothers Sun, Okja, Snowpiercer) released an open invitation to fill the role of visually impaired earthbender, Toph, for their succeeding chapters.

Jue’s talent agency, Downtown Casting, formally extended a casting call last June 12, 2024, describing Toph’s archetype as a “blind Asian female in mid-late teens,” along with a brief description of the Beifong family member.
“She is sassy, confident, and unfiltered. For most of her life, her strength and formidable earthbending skills have been suppressed, but now on the run as the Avatar’s earthbending master, she is uninhibited to become the fierce warrior she believes she is inside,” the statement reads.
“Dance and/or martial arts experience is a plus,” they added.
Apart from the convincing depiction of the show’s current characters’ age and maturity, they emphasize accuracy in seeking the individual to live up to Toph’s role, “highly encouraging” actresses who are “blind or possess low vision.”
