The timeless Itchyworms’ melody “Akin Ka Na Lang” (translated as “Be Mine Instead”) receives a compositional makeover that has sparked some social media buzz. The classic Pinoy tune was remixed by YouTuber stone ocean, and features Jonathan Groff’s rendition of “You’ll be Back”—one of the many iconic tracks from the incoming Hamilton production set to take place this September 2023.
Drawing influence from the ‘60s shuffle beat, the brand drew influence from Apo Hiking Society’s structure of having no “lead singer” but performing communally in order to produce the remix. Originally released in ‘05, the Noontime Show track has resurfaced, blended with the monologue of King George’s adaptation in the renowned Disney+ production of the play.
Receiving over 3.4 million views on the YouTube platform in two years, the two tracks share a similar tune, beats per minute (bpm), and the message is even slightly related, making it seem as if the “collaboration” was always written in the stars.
In a 2021 video feature with We the Pvblic, Itchy Jugs and Jazz recollect their experiences witnessing the viral clip, depicting much excitement and praise. The founding members were enthralled as the remix received validation, especially from a foreign audience.

“Parang nakita ko rin yung ibang mga comments: ‘Hamilton’ brought me here. Actually, nakakatuwa kapag foreigner yung nakaka-appreciate sa music namin,” the lead drummer and guitarist mentioned.
Itchyworms continue their 27-year reign with the commencement of their U.S. Tour, “Akin Ka Na Lang Amerika” and their recent release entitled “Panic in My Mind,” paying tribute to former member Chino Singson’s departure from the band. The piece recounts a personal experience of one of the founders, staying true to their signature sound and ’60s-inspired tones. Dabbling on themes of bitterness and jealousy, ultimately executed to perfection, this track will definitely “buzz around like a bee in your ear.”
