Last May 15, 2024, Complex Philippines joined Swishaboyz at Poblacion’s Apotheka Manila for a gathering that celebrated the cross-cultural exchange of proudly curated Filipino sound.
The collective’s “Fly Shit Only” (FSO) festivities manage a permanent seat on the weekly calendar, delivering flavors, an atmosphere comparable to the weekends’ best, and a community that continues to flourish through the growth of the country’s evergreen nightlife scene.
Unlike any other Wednesday gathering, the night spotlighted Brisbane’s finest OROSA, Big Apple regular Banga Baby, and Toronto’s pride Jenno, with collaborative “Fly Shit Only” and Complex Philippines branding projected above the booth. With doors opening at 10 p.m., the crowds flocked to the White Rabbit staple to witness a convergence of musical influences—and not just in terms of the productions behind the deck.
Apart from the opportunity to discover the flow and rhythmic synergy of Filipinos based overseas, their sets sprouted into what appears to be a pleasant homecoming of sorts, opening their eyes to their home away from home.
“This was my first time playing at a performance-like venue in the Philippines, so I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I just came in with an open mind with an idea of what I wanted to play based on what I know of Fly Shit, which is similar to some of the music that I like,” Jenno tells Complex Philippines.
He adds: “But right off the bat, the energy was crazy. I think I played a Young Nudy track into Hev Abi’s QC girls, and I just felt like both the party and I knew where the night was going. One of my favorite sets ever, for sure.”
From amplifying overseas Filipino pride to spotlighting homegrown talent, Swishaboyz’s “Fly Shit Only” offers a weekly showcase of the “next up” for the country’s blossoming music scene.
