Coldplay Showcases Their Frustrations Of Manila’s Traffic

Coldplay returns to the Philippines for the first time since 2017, and the atmosphere was seemingly perfect—all except for Manila’s unbearable traffic.

Sparks were set ablaze in Coldplay’s awaited reunion in the Philippines as the band motioned their excitement to return to the country for a third time during the second night of the “Music of the Spheres” World Tour. Everything was seemingly bittersweet, emphasizing Manila’s electric atmosphere to the sights and interactions of their local “Sky Full of Stars”—everything but the incomparable traffic.

Organizing a two-day performance last January 19 and 20, 2024, Chris Martin shared his observations of the metro’s unparalleled traffic issues during the first leg of their performances, thanking those in attendance for braving the hours-long wait to arrive at the arena.

“Thank you to all of you for coming through the traffic. Holy shit…I think…We've seen some traffic, but I think you have the number one [worst traffic] in the world. So thank you, thank you for making the effort to come through all that bullshit to be here!” mentioned Martin.

By the second day, the seven-time Grammy Award-winning vocalist seemingly had enough, presenting his frustrations through an impromptu song before welcoming local rock collective Dilaw on stage.

“There is only really one thing that remains. The traffic here in Manila is completely insane. If you wanna drive somewhere, then I'm warning you. A two-mile drive will take a week or two. If you wanna get back home in time for your bath, well, allow yourself about a year and a half,” sang Martin.

The 46-year-old frontman continued with what appeared to be the track’s chorus following up by mentioning its once-in-a-lifetime occurrence.

“Oh we can't wait to play Manila again but the traffic here is completely insane,” he repeated.
