Ronnie Suan (otherwise known as “Boy Tapang” on Facebook) managed to get the attention of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) following his viral ₱1,000 kite vlog, published last April 2, 2024. Authorities caught wind of the viral upload and paid a visit to his residence, reprimanding the Cebuano vlogger’s actions for his contraption amounting to ₱1 million.

The nearly five-minute-and-a-half video features Suan and his companions attempting to make a kite out of ₱1,000 bills, plastic, and tape. They managed to fly it successfully; come the latter portion of the clip, though, it appeared as if several of the bills detached from its base and fell to the ground, which were retrieved and returned to Suan by bystanders on-site.

With over 43 thousand views since its upload, Boy Tapang revealed on his Facebook page that the BSP took notice of his Saranggola gawa sa pera 1,000,000 pesos” and confronted him at his home. According to him, he voluntarily decided to publicly apologize for his insensitive actions, speaking on the value of money and his intent to “entertain.”

(“I would just like to apologize to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas for my kite made out of money…I understand the value of money, considering that I don’t come from much.” as it is something that I value greatly,” mentions Suan.)

(“I thought making a kite made out of regular plastic was common, so I thought, ‘Why don’t I make a kite made out of money?’ Though right now, I apologize for deciding to do so and it wasn’t my intention to play with money,” he adds.)

Boy Tapang ended the clip, reminding those who’ve seen or will see the video that money isn’t something that should be played with, but valued and respected.
