Spotify gave a solid finale to its Kalye X campaign in Manila, which saw Gloc-9, Ramdiss, and Hero release “Umaga”, an unapologetic anthem on embracing one’s individuality. The third and final Filipino Spotify Single was preceded by “Wa Na Wa” by Midnasty and Cookie$ in Cebu, and “Kendeng” by Morobeats in Davao.
For rap OG Gloc-9, “Umaga” is the latest chapter in his passion for storytelling through music. “I love writing songs about real stories, struggles, and what people go through every day. As an artist, I want my music to resonate with everyone, hip-hop fan or not.” The icon also treated the crowd to his hits “Upuan”, “Sumayaw Ka”, “Simpleng Tao”, and more.
For up-and-comers Ramdiss and Hero, the chance to work with a hip-hop legend on a global platform is an honor. “I take pride in the lessons I've learned from those who laid the foundation for rap music in the Philippines,” says Ramdiss. “At tulad ng dati, ay patuloy akong magiging alagad ng rap at habambuhay akong makikibaka para sa kapakanan ng lirisismo at sining.”
(And like before, I will be a servant of rap and forever fight for lyricism and the arts)
“As much as I love creating music, I also love seeing people get inspired by my songs,” says Hero. “I'm grateful that Spotify helps artists like us reach a wider audience, enable collaborations with great talents, and open new doors.”

The concert at Globe Circuit Makati also saw special guest performances from Hev Abi, rap trio O Side Mafia, and a Kalye City Xypher with a 16-bar challenge from Rekta sa Kalye. Apart from the local scene, Spotify also promoted all three Filipino Singles at New York Times Square, marking another international step for Pinoy hip-hop.
