WIP Caps acquired the artistic influence of Arizona-based Filipino artist Joven “GORI” Bautista (Gorilaboratory), slating his signature Gorilla alias on a joint capsule that bridges the gaps between nations while remaining personal and proudly Filipino. The first wave of the “Gori X WIP Caps” collection consists of two limited-edition “BOOGIE” snapbacks (S/B) pieces and a heavyweight tee, with designs conceived through the vision of the AAPI (Asian Pacific Americans) creator.
From GORI’s origins as a disciple of the 90s anime wave, the Valenzuela native transitioned to graffiti and sticker art in his 20s. He continued venturing into acrylic painting, with his expressive Gorilla persona emerging through several group instillations and a solo exhibition in 2017.
Following his local debut, he relocated to Mesa, Arizona, dabbling in designer figurines highly sought-after by collectors through KONGU, GORIO, GREGOR, and BOOGIE. His last notable stint came through a joint AAPI project with the Phoenix Suns, supplying merchandise to the franchise during its 2023 post-season run.
“We’re excited to announce our first collab drop with one of our favorite new artists, GORI! He’s serving us sizzle straight from the deserts of Arizona. It’s [the collection] an ode to our roots,” WIP Caps tells Complex Philippines.
The three-piece “Gori X WIP Caps” capsule is now available in-store and on the brand’s websites (for Philippines and United States-based customers), retailing for ₱1,750 (∼$40) for the S/Bs and ₱1,000 (∼$22-25) for the “GORI” tee in “black.”
