Four-time National Basketball Association Champion Klay Thompson is scheduled to visit the Philippines as ANTA Sportswear’s ambassador for the ANTA Shock The Game finals at the SM Megamall Fashion Hall from August 31-September 1.
In 2017, one-half of the renowned Splash Brothers signed an $80 million 10-year deal with ANTA, receiving eight signature models and several silhouettes with his iconic logo and influence slated on the pairs. Thompson joins seven other NBA cagers, under contract with the Chinese Sportswear manufacturer, with 2016 NBA Champion Kyrie Irving as the newest addition to the roster.
ANTA’s Shock The Game campaign embarks on its second installment, embracing the nation’s fledging basketball culture. 2022 saw the University of the Philippines champion over the competition, consisting of Mark Belmonte, Janjan Felicilda, Nico Tan, Alejandro Shah, and tournament Most-Valuable-Player Reyland Torres. The 2023 June-August tour looks to introduce another formidable squad to hoist the trophy.
Commencing the tournament at the Benedicto College in Cebu, 2023’s rendition widens the range of competition—with 128 hopeful squads compared to the previous 64. ANTA’s Shock the Game features a four-on-four matchup on the hardwood, crowning the winning team on a first-to-21 basis or a 15-minute game, whichever comes first.
“It will be bigger and better. Bigger kasi may nationals na tayo. Better because teams have been
preparing, unlike last year when we introduced the concept nanibago sila lahat,” said Coach Gabby Severino, Commissioner ANTA PH Shock The Game.
“Shock The Game 2023 will be a bigger tournament in terms of geographic reach, a number of teams, players, and a grand finals match showcase,” mentions JP Paglinawan, General Manager of ANTA Philippines.
With the conclusion of the first two legs, the tournament continues at the General Trias Sports Complex, Cavite, with five other legs scheduled before its culmination on August 31, 2023.
