As challenging to play the sport at the amateur level, what more to be able to compete competitively? Since his high-school graduation at 17, the 7-foot-3 Gilas’ frontman Kai Sotto embarked on a vessel en route to the grandest stage—the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Fresh off his US national tour, Sotto undergoes the nerve-wracking waiting game with his slot at the NBA Summer League tournament still in question. The former NBA G-League Ignite cager participated in minicamps of the Dallas Mavericks, Utah Jazz, and the New York Knicks before reportedly retreating to Los Angeles to resume training, per SPIN.ph.

After supposedly successful outings with the Mavericks and Jazz, news regarding his tryout in the Big Apple have yet to surface. With nothing set in stone, the current Hiroshima Dragonfly hopes to rekindle his dream of making it to the NBA—noting his professional experience overseas and growth as a cager.
The path to the upcoming NBA season commences in Vegas, seeing the converging of the conferences slated with 15-man rosters brimming with potential. If Sotto sees his participation in the July 7 to July 17 tournament, he will formally compete with several of the greatest the game has to offer. The Filipino faithful continue to express their support for their local stalwart before hopefully joining the national roster at the FIBA World Cup in Manila this August.
