E-Gilas convincingly routed their competition throughout the eight tourneys, which included 169 and 132-point victories against India. Closing out most of their opposition by double digits, Indonesia appeared as the sole challenge that stood in the way of a World Finals appearance in Elmia, Jönköping, Sweden, on November 25-26, 2023.
History evidences E-Gilas’ ability to prevail against Indonesia, escaping by a single point in their overtime duel last November 2, 2023, to conclude the second round of matchups. Closing out the best-of-three finals in two games, they capitalized on adapting to Indonesia’s commendable defense in matches prior, halting an attempted comeback in the fourth quarter of Game 1 and escaping with a 16-point advantage come the succeeding contest.
“For adjustments, nag film review po kami for a whole day then we forced them to run sets na hindi sila comfortable. Got our stops then we got easy points in the fastbreak,” E-Gilas Captain/Point Guard Clark Banzon told ABS-CBN News.
