Two of the six Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s (NAIA) Terminal 3 cooling towers underwent repairs due to an electricity overload, leaving passengers and employees perspiring since the evening of April 27, 2024. According to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), “evaporative fans were strategically placed in critical areas to combat the temporary disruption.
Apart from enhanced air circulation protocols, MIAA advised those headed to NAIA Terminal 3 to bring handheld fans and dress in light clothing. While the humidity caused discomfort for airport-goers, many—particularly senior citizens, also complained of the lack of seating options readily available in the vicinity. In a circular, the operator asked passengers for their patience given the unforeseen situation.
“In the meantime, we seek for the understanding of our passengers and stakeholders as we work through this challenge. We apologize for any inconvenience that the situation is causing to everyone. Rest assured that we are doing all we can to bring back the air conditioning system to its full functionality,” MIAA mentioned in a statement.
As of writing, the two faulty cooling towers were repaired as of 1 in the morning last April 28, 2024, and are being constantly monitored.
