Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile celebrated his 100th birthday last February 14, 2024, and is now ₱100,000 richer.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. hosted a lunch, commemorating the former Senate President’s centennial feat at the Malacañang Palace last February 14, 2024. The ceremony saw Enrile accept the ₱100,000 cheque and custom centenarian PhilPost stamps, tributing his career in the public sector. He was also joined by his family, witnessing a performance by Tiana Kocher in her grandfather’s honor.
“As smart as you, as clever as you, and as active as you are at 100 years old, you continue to provide service to your country, you continue to give good advice and continue to guide the way that the Philippines can go,” the 17th President of the Philippines mentioned.
Born last February 14, 1924, Enrile’s 100th birth year anniversary makes him eligible to receive the lump sum, abiding by the Centenarians Act of 2016, which provides ₱100,000 to all Filipinos who were born in the Philippines (whether currently working locally or overseas), along with a letter of felicitation from the acting president. For those who’ve reached the 100-year-old mark but reside overseas, the cash gift can be claimed at the Philippine embassy or consulate of their respective countries.
Supplementing the decree, Congress’ delegated ₱186 million for Filipino-born individuals once they celebrate their 100th birthday through the 2024 General Appropriations Act.
