Dan Villegas’ ‘Cattleya Killer’ Set to Debut on Prime Video

The blue carpet saw the cast of ‘Cattleya Killer’—the first local series collaboration between Prime Video and ABS-CBN. Procuring a roster of locally produced films and shows, Amazon [spearheads] the artistry and beauty of generational talent and storytelling, amassing a regional audience. 

Conceived through the direction of Direk Dan Villegas, the series musters continuity of the ‘90s Filipino classic, “Sa Aking Mga Kamay” (In My Own Hands), set to be released on June 1, 2023. The six-episode production is the first Filipino series to be featured at MIPCOM (International Co-Production & Entertainment Content Market) in Cannes, unveiled to the biggest content market in the world.

Fortifying its predecessor’s crime-thriller [roots], the 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival Best Director resurrects the original Aga Muhlach antagonist, leaving a trail of Cattleya flowers among his victims. Anton dela Rosa (Arjo Atayde) harnesses the mantle as the two-faced serial killer lurking on faithful wives. With its prequel dated almost 30 years, the Quezon City First District Congressman researched extensively to embody his intended character.

“I’m more of a visual learner so I’ve seen a lot of documentaries, a lot of videos, interviews. With that, I aligned whatever I watched with whatever the personality or character that ‘Cattleya’ demands,” he tells the media conference post-screening.

Christopher de Leon reprises his original role as Joven dela Rosa, a National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director, distinguished as the person responsible for solving the original case. He takes his youngest son, Anton, under his wing as one of the NBI’s top agents, though riddled with visions and a questionable alibi.
