CNN Philippines erases its virtual presence, ceasing operations across its platforms as of February 1, 2024. The social media wipeout shut down its website, Instagram, Facebook, and X/Twitter mediums. CNN Philippines had over 7 million followers throughout its nine-year operation.
Management of the former Nine Media Corporation-owned franchise broke the news of its closure last Sunday, January 29, 2024, due to losses amounting to 5 billion pesos ($88.5 million) since its establishment in 2015.

With the news, the broadcasting channel promises “severance packages” to its displaced staff as the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) plans to step in to assist, according to the Philippine News Agency.
“We can offer them assistance in ensuring that benefits due them as a result of their separation are given to them, if not yet paid…We can make available to displaced workers job facilitation our TUPAD (Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers) program and DOLE Integrated Livelihood program,” mentions Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma.
Former members of CNN Philippines took their sentiments of the only predominantly English free-to-air television network’s abrupt termination to social media, grieving the demise of its “fair, accurate, and balanced” content, which is now inaccessible.
Nine years of working for CNN Philippines started and ended on the website and our social media pages to deliver content that is fair, accurate, and balanced.
Erased just like that.
Allow me to grieve this loss. pic.twitter.com/DihlXqWpwh

Worked for CNN Philippines for over a decade. We tried our best to deliver news that’s fair, accurate, and balanced.
I handled most of our social media accounts.
And just like that, it’s all gone.
We fought the good fight.
I’m proud of what we accomplished. pic.twitter.com/Onry3UhHPd— Christian Marquez (@cjmarquez_) January 31, 2024
cnn philippines wiped out on social media as if we never existed.

Supporters and colleagues of CNN Philippines similarly expressed their thoughts with news of the company’s closure.
They should've atleast maintained it untouched for the sake of history, give for example, Solar News Channel's transition to 9TV, and 9TV's transition to CNN Philippines. Sayang yung old news reports, therefore sayang yung legacy.

The only local channel that aired the ABS-CBN shutdown live ends its news operations today.

🚨🚨 Nag-impulse buy ako ng 2TB Google Drive storage para tumulong mag-archive ng CNN Philippines content!
DM me if you want access so you can upload!
The hope is, as suggested by @RegineCabato in a group chat, to turn this over to university libraries.

The common belief was, "Once it's on the internet, it's there forever."
The CNN Philippines shutdown disputes this and proves just how unreliable the internet is for storage. Corporate decisions could erase a decade's worth of journalistic work. https://t.co/V4s2sNAXfr
