Shaira Takes Down Three Tracks Due to Possible Copyright Issues

Online streaming platforms have removed Shaira’s “Forever Single (Walang Jowa)” and “Pakboy” from their libraries. The absence of the singles marks her second and third songs removed in less than a week due to possible copyright infringement claims.

Listeners of the “Bangsamoro Pop” musician pointed out that the “sawi-based” track, “Forever Single (Walang Jowa)” draws comparisons to a sped-up version of Indonesian collective Papinka’s “Masih Mencintainya.”

Facebook users also mentioned similarities between “Pakboy” and Siti Badriah’s “Lagi Syantik” melody, which debuted in 2018. Shaira’s 2023 released tracks were reportedly deleted from streaming platforms, and its music videos are nowhere to be found.

Her previous Spotify Philippines Top 10 Viral Songs entrant, “Selos,” garnered the attention of Australian musician-actress Lenka who observed several similarities with her 2008 ballad “Trouble is a Friend,” which accumulated over 32 million streams on the platform.

Many speculate that “Forever Single (Walang Jowa)” received a similar fate to “Selos” given its compositional approach. While Shaira’s management has yet to comment on the song’s disappearance, AHS Productions previously volunteered to take down the song until securing proper licensing.

“This is a voluntary act on our end as we are still making arrangements with regards to the legality of the publication of the song. We have chosen to take it down from all platforms pending our agreement with the original artist’s management on securing a cover license for ‘Selos',” AHS Productions said.
