Original story:
BTS’ J-Hope made sure to make the most of the days leading up to his mandatory 18-month military service by teasing a single called “on the street” which he wrote and features American rapper J. Cole.
The teaser sees the South Korean artist walking on a terrace before revealing a chilling J. Cole. The pair then look up as the camera pans to the sky and reveals the single’s release date: March 3, Friday, 2 pm KST (1 pm in the Philippines).
According to a press release by Big Hit Music, “on the street” is a lo-fi hip-hop track that “delivers a hopeful message & warmth that reminds listeners of his positive and bright energy.” The song also serves as an exploration of J-Hope’s roots, who started as an underground dancer. It will serve as a “meaningful” gift for fans while the rapper is on hiatus.
J-Hope cites J. Cole as the biggest influence and motivation on his music since the beginning of his career. The former’s 2018 mixtape “Hope World” was a reference to the latter’s 2011 album “Cole World: The Sideline Story.
The pair would eventually meet at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, the same show where J-Hope made history as the first South Korean artist to headline the event.
