German graffiti artist CUORE pays tribute to local rap/hip-hop collective Morobeats with a mural of its frontwoman, Miss A, alongside a Tron 26 installation in Berlin, Germany’s Park am Nordbahnhof. He took his creation to social media last Monday, March 11, 2024, with the “On & On” hitmaker responding with her amazement and approval of the piece.
CUORE’s six square-meter depiction of the 24-year-old Emcee draws similarities to her photograph with the Complex Philippines Council, captured by Borgy Angeles, where she sports a red Kangol beret. Miss A reshared the installation on her Instagram stories and commented: “This is so sick! 🔥🔥” on the original post.
As Morobeats celebrate their decade-long anniversary, the influence of the Zamboanga natives continues to seep toward overseas audiences. The German artist regards their sound as reminiscent of hip-hop’s foundations.
“Morobeats is reviving hip hop in the Philippines, which Germany unfortunately lost at the end of the 90s—beats that sound like fun and rap that tells stories (even if I don't understand everything if it's not in English), CUORE tells Complex Philippines.
“Morobeats fulfills three out of four elements of hip-hop, especially through DJ Medmessiah and his contribution to Red Bull BC One: MCing, rap, BBoying. Since “Miss A” stands out for me with her clear voice and strong lyrics, as a graffiti artist, I wanted to close the circle with the fourth element and thank Morobeats for their contribution,” he added.
