Our Filipino tastebuds said it best; “Asim Kilig.”
Sinigang, the signature sour soup dish of the Philippines, has been named one of The Best Dishes in the World for 2023 by the travel online guide Taste Atlas. The local icon ranked 97th out of 100 spots, beating Poland’s Zurek, France’s Steak au Poivre, and Vietnam’s Pho bo.
This year’s top spot was claimed by Brazil’s Picanha, followed by Malaysia’s Roti canai and Thailand’s Phat kaphrao.
Taste Atlas described Sinigang as a flexible dish containing pork, fish, shrimp, chicken, or beef, and served piping hot along with rice. The dish has seen variations through the years, with different regions developing their own versions.
“With its sour lightness perfectly matching the harsh tropical heat of the country, Sinigang is a unique soup that is a true representative of Filipino cuisine,” writes Taste Atlas.
