Atmos Manila: First Look, Retail Grails, and Inclusivity

Atmos Manila: First Look

Atmos Manila packs the heat while promoting accessibility

Atmos has arrived in the Philippines, banking on the idea of inclusivity.

The iconic Japanese streetwear and sneaker boutique opened its first pop-up at One Bonifacio High Street in Taguig, intending to open a bigger physical store at the end of 2023. Atmos made a name in Japan for its rise from a minuscule retail store founded by Hidefumi Hommyo in 2000 to an influential hub that stocks limited editions from Nike, adidas, ASIC, and Puma. Atmos also has its own coveted collaborations with the brands mentioned.

Complex PH got to tour the Atmos Manila pop-up during a preview party and the main takeaway is the bevy of sneaker selections at retail prices. For example, Atmos had wall-to-wall retail stocks of the elusive Jordan 1 “Lost and Found,” which currently resells at PHP 20,000 – PHP 25,000.

Other scene stealers include the recently released Jordan 3 “White Cement,” Dunk Low “Syracuse,” the now-controversial Tom Sachs x NikeCraft “General Purpose” line, and the atmos On Cloudnova.

Atmos is in awe of the surrounding hype around Manila's sneaker culture, calling it a “key city” among its growing territories outside of Japan. But for Philippine Director Nicholas Schaffer, Atmos Manila will also become an inclusive hub for sneakerheads from all walks of life.

“We play with everyone,” says Schaffer.  “We try to curate a little bit differently. For example, we always talk about moving away from high-heat products.”

“We want to accept people that are not sneakerheads and don’t know much. That’s fine. Come in, we’ll talk to you, help you pick a pair, and we won’t look down on you. If you really like sneakers and love the culture, [you’re welcome]. That’s how we want it to be.”

The Atmos team recognizes the role of inclusivity in making sneaker culture grow even bigger than it already is, a belief they said stems from founder Hidefumi Hommyo. Apart from having a bigger physical space in late 2023, Atmos Manila remains tight-lipped about its upcoming events for this year but promises to reveal more in the coming months. So stay tuned to this space.

The writer didn’t say they were retail prices, it’s clearly indicated that they had stock that goes for retail and the writer mentioned the resell prices of the shoe after. Make sure you have good reading comprehension before making an idiotic comment.
