The AVRYN Headlines adidas’ First Label in 50 Years

ICYMI, adidas launched the newly minted “Sportswear” collection, the brand’s firstin 50 years. The line, which joins the Performance and Originals labels, features trendy sportswear items curated towards “the next generation” aka the Gen-Zs.

American actress Jenna Ortega serves as the brand ambassador, sporting the label’s debut drops, the AVRYN sneakers, and the TIRO suit. According to the press release, the design is meant to be aesthetically versatile, perfect for “kicking back with friends, heading to practice, or exploring the city for the weekend.” Other endorsers include NBA star Trae Young and South Korean footballer Son Heung-Min.

We got our hands on the AVRYN, which comes in two colorways: a muted two-tone black and grey with minimal red detailing, and our personal pick, an all-grey version with the black signature 3-stripes complete with purple accent, origami-inspired finishes, and an exaggerated heel tab. The sneaker combines BOUNCE and BOOST technology for maximum comfort.

The design clearly banks on the Gen-Z preference for minimalistic, light-colored aesthetics that can fit any kind of style or use. It’s a good-looking sneaker for a label that launched months after adidas cut ties with Kanye West and the Yeezy collection over the latter’s anti-semitic remarks.

adidas owns the designs for the Yeezys, but with the line’s future in flux, the brand will need a substitute to please its Gen-Z market. Time will tell if Sportswear can hold the fort, but in the meantime, you can browse the entire collection on the adidas site.
