WATCH: Hungers Games Prequel Drops Trailer

The first trailer for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes has arrived. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes features a star-studded cast that includes Rachel Zegler, Tom Blyth, Viola Davis, Peter Dinklage, Jason Schwartzman, and Hunter Schafer. Francis Lawrence, who directed the final two films in The Hunger Games quartet, returns to helm the prequel.

Based on the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes follows an 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow (Blyth), prior to becoming the tyrannical President of Panem—later played by Donald Sutherland—as he’s tasked with mentoring Lucy Gray Baird (Zegler) from impoverished District 12, ahead of the 10th annual Hunger Games.

“After Lucy Gray commands all of Panem’s attention by defiantly singing during the reaping ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favor,” the syynopsis from Lionsgate reads, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Uniting their instincts for showmanship and newfound political savvy, Snow and Lucy’s race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird and a snake.”
