Abi Marquez Preps Saweetie’s Favorite Filipino Dish

NYMA’s Abi Marquez brought Saweetie a taste of home away from home, procuring her rendition of the Fil-Am musician’s favorite Filipino delicacy. The one-minute clip features a behind-the-scenes look at the dish’s execution, followed by a taste test from Saweetie—who motioned her approval afterward.

Bobbi Althoff’s The Really Good Podcast saw the Santa Clara native introduce sinigang and its bangus (milkfish) key ingredient to the 26-year-old host, jokingly mentioning that Althoff should expand her horizons. Around a month after its upload, Marquez stepped up to the challenge, inviting the Icy Queen to her home and offering her version of Sinigang.

The 24-year-old food content creator tended first to the vegetables, cutting up the tomatoes and onions, before pre-heating a pan on the stove and adding the chopped ingredients. She proceeded with her preference for salmon and pork belly instead of the traditional (and Saweetie’s favorite) bangus, in which she added patis (fish sauce), radish, seasoning, and other sinigang staples before plating and serving.

Saweetie then gave a “thumbs-up” gesture following several spoonfuls of the salmon-induced broth while acknowledging the Philippines’ Lumpia Queen.
