A fun and exciting basketball game happened in San Juan last June 2, but it didn’t feature the country’s top collegiate prospects or pros. It was bannered by prominent musicians, as part of a community gathering by media platform, The New Hue.

Team White and Black went head-to-head in a full-court pickup game, with Team White emerging with a 76-71 win thanks to a fiery 4th quarter from singer-songwriter Adie. The “Paraluman” act waxed hot in the midrange with his team down by as much as 15 points in the final period. The comeback was magnified by his loyal fans in attendance, and the streetball-type atmosphere, complete with a hypeman and a DJ booth.

OC Records founder Kean Cipriano and The New Hue founder H Magsino acted as players/coaches for Team White and Black, respectively. Both have played an active role in building a community where artists can network, socialize, and best of all, let off some steam.

“[The New Hue] started during the pandemic, from a podcast to a publication. The music industry supported us, so we decided to give back. Artists are free to create with us and that’s also how we became a community,” said Magsino.

“This community basketball game is about how we’re open to organizing recreational activities, not just music events. I’m grateful the artists showed up. This is for everyone.”

For Kean Cipriano, being a part of The New Hue community shows the dissolving of barriers among artists. “Ito yung pangarap ko ever since I started in music. Nababasag yung “factions.” Everyone gets together and the support of the artists is genuine.”

“This basketball game started with a group from OC [Records], but then we also reached out to other labels. Maraming plans for the future, but all of it is about building this community.”

Other artists/players in attendance were Chicosci’s Eco del Rio, R&B singer Cean Jr., folk artist Bullet Dumas, DJ Hoest, singer/songwriters Rob Deniel, Christian Alexander, and  Sam and Tim Marquez from One Click Straight. Peep the rest of the pictures below:
